Simba head coach Steve Barker has revealed his plan to ensure Mighty Wanderers face a difficult challenge in the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary-round clash, scheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Simba will enter the match with a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Malawi, with Barker insisting that his side is prepared to perform better than it did in the away fixture.
The coach said the team’s preparations are progressing well, with some players who had been dealing with minor injuries returning to the squad, giving the technical staff more options.
“The team is in good shape. A few players who had minor injuries and issues are returning, so we are in a good position in terms of preparations for this match,” Barker said.
Barker said Simba must raise their performance in the second leg, acknowledging that securing an away victory in African competitions is no easy task.
“We need to perform better than we did away on Sunday, but it was not an easy environment. Any away win in continental competition should be regarded as a good result,” he said.
Barker Wants Uhuru Stadium to Be Tough for Wanderers
Barker wants Uhuru Stadium to become a source of pressure for the visitors, urging his players to start the match strongly, adopt an attacking approach and make it difficult for their opponents to play comfortably.
The coach believes the home advantage and the support of the fans can play an important role in pushing Simba towards the first round of the CAF Champions League.
“It is not easy for a team to come to Tanzania and play against us. We need to make sure it is a difficult environment for them and that it is difficult to play against us,” Barker said.
Simba need to protect their one-goal advantage while seeking another victory in front of their home supporters to secure their place in the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
The match is expected to be highly competitive, with Mighty Wanderers needing a positive result to overturn the tie after suffering a 1-0 defeat at home in Malawi.
