After emphatically securing a place in the first round of the CAF Champions League with a 7-1 aggregate victory over Mighty Wanderers, Simba have now shifted their focus to the league.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, September 16, Simba will take on Azam FC at Azam Complex in the sixth-round match of the NBC Premier League.
It will be the Mzizima Derby, bringing together two highly competitive sides whose rivalry is rooted in their history.
Before officially establishing Azam FC, billionaire businessman Said Salim Bakhresa was once among the major sponsors who supported Simba SC and provided services to the club through offices located in the Mzizima area.
Following leadership and financial tensions, that investment withdrew from Simba and the decision was made to establish a new team, which is now known as Azam FC.
In recent seasons, Azam FC have proven to be a difficult opponent for Simba, particularly when the two sides meet in the league.
Last season, Simba managed just one point after a goalless draw in the second-round league fixture, while Azam FC collected four points from the two encounters.
However, the most recent meeting between the two teams came in the CRDB Cup final, where Simba emerged victorious with a 1-0 win to lift the trophy.
Simba have set ambitious targets of winning the league title this season, making victory over Azam FC an especially important result for the club.
