Simba head coach Steve Barker has praised his players after they secured a 2-0 victory over Azam FC in an NBC Premier League match played at Azam Complex on Wednesday night.
Speaking after the match, Barker said they needed the victory, with the most important thing being that they won without conceding a goal.
He praised the way his players remained focused defensively, denying Azam FC opportunities to get into dangerous positions while making good use of counterattacking opportunities to punish their opponents.
"I am pleased with how we improved defensively. We were well organised at the back and prevented our opponents from getting sight of our goal."
"Today we showed quality in possession and in defending. A team that wants to attack well must also be capable of defending."
"It was a physical and tactical game. I think the referee could have taken further action in some incidents, but I am happy Simba came away with the victory without conceding a goal," Barker said.
The victory takes Simba to 18 points as they continue their fierce battle with their rivals Yanga at the top of the league standings, with the two teams separated by goal difference.
However, the victory over Azam FC can be described as three highly valuable points in Simba’s strategy to challenge for the league title this season.
