With the NBC Premier League suspended for nearly three weeks to accommodate the FIFA calendar, Simba SC have decided to use the break to prepare further as they look to maintain their winning momentum this season.
The Reds of Msimbazi have travelled to South Africa for a 10-day training camp as part of their preparations before returning to competitive action and facing their biggest rivals, Yanga, in the Kariakoo Derby on October 10.
Simba Head of Information and Communications Ahmed Ally said the camp is primarily aimed at ensuring the squad remains competitive despite the league being suspended.
Speaking shortly before the team departed Dar es Salaam, Ahmed said the FIFA break would not prevent Simba from continuing to sharpen their preparations, but would instead be used as an opportunity to further strengthen the squad.
"Our 10-day camp is aimed at keeping the players in good physical condition and ensuring the team’s performance does not drop because of the league suspension."
“We thank and congratulate Simba SC President and investor Mohammed Dewji for his commitment to funding this camp,” Ahmed said.
Simba have made a fast start to the season, winning all eight matches they have played across all competitions so far.
In addition, the Reds of Msimbazi have set a record of 16 consecutive NBC Premier League victories, continuing the momentum they built towards the end of last season.
The South Africa training camp, funded by Simba Honorary President and billionaire Mohammed Dewji ‘Mo Dewji’, comes at a time when the technical bench has the responsibility of ensuring that this momentum is maintained.
