Simba SC attacking midfielder Keletso Makgalwa has revealed why he turned down interest from South African giants Kaizer Chiefs and decided to join Simba.
Makgalwa, who joined the Reds of Msimbazi from South Africa’s Sekhukhune United, said his decision was influenced by Simba’s strong plans and his desire to seek a new challenge outside his home country.
Speaking to South African journalists about how his move to Kaizer Chiefs failed to materialise, the midfielder admitted that the club, popularly known as 'Amakhosi', showed strong interest in signing him and even presented an attractive financial offer, but they were slow to make a final decision.
"My heart had already decided that my time playing in South Africa was over. I wanted to move abroad. Kaizer Chiefs came with a very good offer, but while they were taking their time and trying to organise things, Simba’s officials moved quickly and showed genuine interest in signing me. I did not want to wait, so I signed for Simba," said Makgalwa.
Although he turned down Kaizer Chiefs for now, Makgalwa made it clear that playing for the Soweto-based club has been a childhood dream since he was growing up in Mokopane, and he has not completely ruled out returning there in the future.
"Playing for Chiefs is every South African child’s dream. For now, I am at Simba, but I have not completely closed that door. Anything can happen in the future," he added.
Speaking about reports linking him with Yanga, the attacking midfielder revealed that there had been discussions and an offer on the table, but the speed and appeal of Simba’s project ultimately convinced him to choose the red side of Msimbazi.
The player has reassured Simba fans, promising to give everything to help the club restore its pride. Makgalwa said his main objectives this season are to make a significant contribution to Simba as the club targets domestic trophies while also seeking success on the international stage.
