Dean Smith has been appointed Leicester City manager until the end of this season
Smith, 52, left Norwich earlier this season after spells at Aston Villa and Brentford
Leicester are in danger of relegation following a home defeat against Bournemouth last Saturday. They are two points from safety with eight games remaining.
"The challenge ahead of us is understandable, but I and my coaching team have been through it," Smith told the club's website.
"With the quality in this squad and the number of games left, it's very possible"
Smith's first game in charge of Leicester will be away to Premier League champions Manchester City on Saturday.
Craig Shakespeare returns to the King Power Stadium as Smith's assistant manager.
Shakespeare was part of Claudio Ranieri's squad when Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016.
He later replaced the Italian as manager. Smith's coaching bench will also include former England captain John Terry, who served under him at Aston Villa, as well as the club's current first-team coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell.
