It was a night of suffering for Chelsea at the Emirates as striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang started against his former employers in a game in which Frank Lampard only used him for 45 minutes with nine touches of the ball
The forward, who represented the Gunners for four years, saw Chelsea concede a 3-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night
But Chelsea were second best in every department as they conceded 3-0 goals in the opening 34 minutes
Martin Odegaard put the Gunners ahead in the 18th minute when he connected with a cross from Granit Xhaka on the left before firing a shot past Kepa Arrizabalaga
The two linked up again after half an hour after Xhaka provided Odegaard, who scored his second and Arsenal's goal with a neat finish
And shortly after that it was 3-0 when Gabriel Jesus put the ball in front of Kepa from close to the penalty area after a mistake by Chelsea's defense
Noni Madueke scored an away goal in the second half but it was no consolation for Chelsea tonight. It was a poor game for Frank Lampard's men but Aubameyang had the worst of the season with just nine touches in the first half.
Arsenal is back at the top of the standings with 78 points, two points more than second-placed Manchester City with 76 points
However Manchester City have two games in hand
