Chikola admit, Tabora United struggling

February 28, 2025, was the last time Tabora United secured a win in the Tanzanian Premier League. Since then, the team has played six consecutive matches — equivalent to 540 minutes — without a win, suffering defeats, while the team’s midfielder, Offen Chikola, has spoken out.

The team, currently in fifth place on the league table with 37 points, last won when they defeated Dodoma Jiji 1-0 at the Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora, thanks to an own goal by Dodoma Jiji’s Dissan Galiwango in the 35th minute.

Since that match, Tabora United has lost six games in a row, scoring only one goal — courtesy of Offen Chikola — while conceding 13 goals.

The results of those matches are:

  • Tabora United 1-2 JKT Tanzania

  • Tabora United 0-3 Yanga

  • Pamba Jiji 1-0 Tabora United

  • Mashujaa 3-0 Tabora United

  • Singida Black Stars 3-0 Tabora United

  • Tabora United 0-1 KMC

Chikola stated that the poor results are part of a transitional phase, and although the players are giving their all, the quality of the opponents has overwhelmed them.

“We’re not happy with the results we’re getting. We've been working hard to be at our best, but the opposing teams have outclassed us. We've sat down with the technical bench and agreed on the right strategies. We believe we’ll come back stronger in the last two league matches,” he said, adding:

“We haven’t achieved our goals because of these unfavorable results, but that doesn’t stop us from fighting to make the team better. In the remaining two matches, we expect a challenge — but we’re not ready to give away any points.”

Tabora United is in fifth place on the standings, having played 28 matches and collected 37 points. They have two matches remaining, both away — against Azam FC and Coastal Union.

One of the biggest surprises from the “Tabora Bees” this season was their 3-1 win over giants Yanga SC — one of the 10 victories they have recorded so far.
