Gonçalves Sends Hopeful Message After Yanga Lose Unity Cup Final to Simba SC

After losing the Unity Cup final 1-0 to Simba SC, Yanga SC head coach Pedro Gonçalves has delivered a strong and hopeful message of unity and resilience to fans and his team.

The match, played at the New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, was highly competitive from the first minute to the last. The 90 minutes of regular time ended in a goalless draw, leading to an additional 30 minutes of extra time.

During extra time, Simba managed to score the winning goal from a penalty kick in the final minutes, sealing a narrow 1-0 victory after 120 minutes of play.

Through his social media page, Gonçalves expressed great pride in his team despite missing out on the trophy.

“I am proud of this team for the way we fought in the Unity Cup. We showed commitment, good character, and unity until the final minute.”

The coach also thanked Yanga fans, popularly known as the “Wananchi,” for their unwavering support:

“Thank you Wananchi for your amazing support. We feel it every step of our journey.”

Despite the result, Gonçalves made it clear that their focus has now shifted to a league match against their rivals, scheduled for May 3 at the Isamuhyo Stadium.

“Now we are shifting all our energy to Sunday’s league match, which we are currently leading through our own hard work, and we must continue fighting to maintain it.”

He further urged fans to continue standing firmly behind the team.

“We need you to stay with us. Your support is crucial. We keep working, we keep pushing forward — together.”
