Aston Villa and SC Freiburg will face each other in the final of the UEFA Europa League.

Aston Villa have officially qualified for the final of the UEFA Europa League after defeating Nottingham Forest 4-0 in the second leg of the semifinal played at Villa Park. The victory saw Villa advance 4-1 on aggregate after overturning a 1-0 deficit from the first leg, in what was a special night for their supporters.

Ollie Watkins scored Villa’s opening goal in the first half to spark hopes of a comeback, before Emiliano Buendía added the second from the penalty spot in the second half. Captain John McGinn was the star of the match after scoring two goals and leading the team with an outstanding performance that left Forest with no chance of getting back into the game.

For Nottingham Forest, it was a difficult night as they were outclassed in quality, pace, and physicality across many areas of the match. The team failed to respond to Villa’s attacks or take advantage of the edge they gained in the first leg, leading to a painful elimination in front of jubilant Villa fans who celebrated throughout the night.

Aston Villa will now face SC Freiburg in the Europa League final, which will be played on May 20, 2026, in Istanbul, Türkiye.

In addition, Villa’s victory could have a major impact on UEFA Champions League qualification spots for other Premier League clubs, with AFC Bournemouth closely following hopes of a historic qualification for European competition.
