Simba SC has begun evaluating plans for the construction of its new stadium, with an ongoing internal debate over the most suitable location for the project.
Board of Directors Chairman Crescentius Magori says the board has received different opinions from members and stakeholders regarding where the stadium should be built.
Simba currently owns land in Bunju, on the outskirts of Dar es Salaam, which is being used as training grounds and was initially considered as the preferred site for the construction of the club’s main stadium.
However, discussions have emerged due to the distance of the area. Some stakeholders are proposing that the stadium be built in a more accessible location closer to fans, while Bunju continues to serve as the club’s training facility.
Magori said the board will carefully review all suggestions through formal meetings before making a final decision on the direction of the long-awaited project, which is highly anticipated by Simba supporters.
He added that there is currently no major stadium construction taking place in Bunju, apart from routine maintenance and infrastructure improvements.
Speaking on the matter, Magori said:
“There are different ideas about the use of Bunju. If we build a stadium there, will people easily access it? Some Simba fans live in Mbagala; the distance to Bunju is quite far. Will they be able to travel there? These views will be discussed by the Board before any decision is made.”
“The Board will analyze everything and make a final decision on where the new stadium should be built, taking into account the interests of both fans and the club. When the time comes, we will announce everything.”
“We have not received any information that someone is planning to build a stadium in Bunju. There are ongoing improvements there. The Board will meet to decide because there are different opinions,” said Magori.
Following rival club Yanga SC announcing plans for a stadium in Jangwani, Simba is also believed to be considering a more accessible location that would make it easier for fans to attend matches.
