FIFA Hands Themba Zwane Three-Match Ban After Red Card Incident

South Africa national team midfielder Themba Zwane has been handed a three-match suspension by FIFA following the red card he received in their opening World Cup group stage match against Mexico.

The decision comes after an investigation into the incident, where it was determined that Zwane violated disciplinary rules related to violent conduct on the field.

Zwane was shown a red card in the closing stages of the match, which Bafana Bafana lost 2-0 to Mexico.

VAR review showed that the midfielder was involved in an elbow challenge on Mexico player Roberto Alvarado, prompting the referee to send him off.

FIFA has confirmed that Zwane will serve a three-match suspension, meaning he will miss all remaining group stage matches.

The governing body reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against violent conduct in football in order to protect player safety and uphold the integrity of the game.
