After making history in Morocco and making many Tanzanians proud and happy, Tanzania’s Under-17 national football team, the Serengeti Boys, has officially started preparing for its next challenges. The team has begun training at Gymkhana Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The players are preparing for three international friendly matches that will be played in July. These matches are part of their preparations for the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar in 2026.
The Serengeti Boys made history by reaching the final of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON U-17) for the first time. They also secured a place in the FIFA U-17 World Cup, which is considered one of the biggest achievements in Tanzanian youth football.
Although the team had a successful tournament, they missed the chance to become African champions after losing to Senegal in the final. Tanzania scored first in the 7th minute through Mihambo, but Senegal equalized in the second half. The match ended 1-1, and Senegal won 4-2 in a penalty shootout.
Tanzania finished as runners-up and won silver medals. However, reaching the final and qualifying for the World Cup were major achievements. The team showed great talent, determination, and competitiveness throughout the tournament, proving that Tanzania has a promising new generation of football players.
Now that they are back home, preparations for the World Cup have officially begun. Training sessions at Gymkhana Stadium are helping the coaching staff assess the players, improve team tactics, and build a strong squad for next year's tournament. The friendly matches in July will play an important role in these preparations.
Coach Elieneza Nsanganzelu has emphasized the importance of discipline, teamwork, and hard work. He said the success achieved in Morocco should motivate the players to work even harder for the challenges ahead. The coaching staff believes that early preparation will help the team perform at its best during the World Cup.
