Tanzania Premier League champions Yanga SC are continuing their squad reinforcement plans ahead of the new season, with reports suggesting the club is in the final stages of completing the signings of two defenders from Mashujaa FC of Kigoma.
After making changes to the technical bench by appointing new head coach Manqoba Mngqithi to replace Pedro Goncalves, who joined Morocco’s AS FAR, Yanga has now shifted focus towards strengthening the squad.
Sources within Yanga indicate that the club is close to completing the signings of central defender Mohamed Mussa and right-back Abdulnasir Gamal, both from Mashujaa FC.
Yanga Looks to Kigoma for Emerging Talent
Through these potential signings, Yanga appears to be continuing its strategy of strengthening the squad by recruiting some of the best-performing players in the Tanzania Premier League.
Mohamed Mussa is expected to add quality and depth to the central defensive area, while Abdulnasir Gamal is set to fill the position left by Israel Mwenda, whose contract with Yanga has expired.
Yanga’s Defense Set to Feature Local Players
If Mussa’s signing is officially completed, Yanga’s central defensive department next season will consist entirely of Tanzanian players.
Mussa and Nasri Kombo are expected to join existing defenders Ibrahim Bacca, Dickson Job, and Bakari Mwamnyeto, highlighting the club’s continued belief in the quality of local talent.
Demanding Schedule Requires a Bigger Squad
Yanga’s recruitment strategy comes in line with a warning from Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia, who urged clubs to build deeper squads due to the challenges expected in the upcoming season.
The 2026/27 Tanzania Premier League campaign is expected to feature a congested schedule and conclude in May, meaning teams may be required to play several matches within short periods.
