Polisi Tanzania FC have secured promotion to the 2026/27 NBC Premier League after defeating Tanzania Prisons in the promotion/relegation playoff. Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat in the second leg at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on Thursday, Polisi Tanzania advanced with a 4-1 aggregate victory, thanks to their commanding 4-0 first-leg win.
The promotion marks the end of Polisi Tanzania's stay in the Championship League, where they had spent several seasons fighting for a return to Tanzania's top flight. Their success sparked celebrations among the club's management, coaching staff, and supporters, who will now see the team compete once again in the country's premier division.
The achievement came under head coach Mohammed Makata, who further enhanced his reputation as one of Tanzania's most successful promotion specialists. Makata guided Polisi Tanzania through the playoffs, adding another promotion to his impressive coaching record.
For Tanzania Prisons, the result confirms their relegation to the Championship League after they failed to overturn the four-goal deficit from the first leg. Polisi Tanzania will now turn their attention to preparations for the new Premier League season, aiming to build a squad capable of competing strongly in Tanzania's top division.
