Kylian Mbappé Breaks All-Time World Cup Scoring Record

Kylian Mbappé has continued to write his name in football history after breaking the record for the highest number of goals scored by any player in FIFA World Cup history.

The French star reached a total of 22 World Cup goals after scoring twice in the third-place playoff against England at the 2026 World Cup, a match France lost 6-4. Those goals helped him surpass Argentina legend Lionel Messi, who previously held the record with 21 goals in the tournament.

The Journey to a Historic Record

Mbappé achieved this record while still at the peak of his abilities. His World Cup scoring journey began in Russia in 2018, where, at just 18 years old, he scored four goals and helped France win the World Cup title.

At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Mbappé continued to shine by scoring eight goals and winning the Golden Boot, despite France losing the final to Argentina.

In 2026, the Real Madrid forward raised his level even further, scoring 10 goals and leading the tournament's top scorers' chart.

Surpassing Messi and Other Legends

With this new record, Mbappé has moved ahead of some of the greatest players in World Cup history. Lionel Messi now stands on 21 goals, while previous records were held by legends such as Miroslav Klose, Ronaldo Nazário, and others before the arrival of the new generation.

What makes Mbappé's achievement even more remarkable is the speed at which he reached the record. He accomplished it at just 27 years old, giving fans hope that he can add even more goals in future tournaments.

The New King of the World Cup?

Mbappé is now being regarded as one of the greatest players ever to appear in World Cup history. From 2018 to 2026, he has been a crucial figure for France and has continued to break one record after another.
