Mangungu Dismisses Claims of Simba Leadership Crisis

Simba SC Chairman Murtaza Mangungu has insisted there is no leadership crisis at the club, saying the events of yesterday reflected only differing views among club officials.

On Sunday, Mangungu convened an emergency meeting in Bunju, Dar es Salaam, during which he announced a new Board of Trustees.

Shortly afterward, Simba's management issued a statement rejecting the meeting, declaring it invalid on the grounds that it had not been convened in accordance with the club's constitution.

Speaking to Crown FM earlier today, Mangungu defended the meeting, saying it was held following consultations between himself and Simba honorary president and investor Mohamed Dewji, popularly known as "Mo."

Mangungu said several members appointed to the new Board of Trustees had been proposed by Dewji himself.

"The people selected yesterday were the result of discussions between Mohammed and me. We agreed on the nominations. Mo proposed four names, while three came from me," Mangungu said.

Addressing the inclusion of Amos Makalla, Mangungu added:

"Mohammed was the one who proposed him. Whether he consulted him beforehand or not is not my responsibility. In any case, he has the right to accept or decline because he has not yet received an official appointment letter," he said.

Mangungu emphasized that he respects billionaire Mohamed Dewji and regularly consults him on matters concerning the club.

He also dismissed suggestions of a power struggle or an attempted takeover within Simba.

"I am one of the people who truly values Mohammed Dewji's contribution to Simba, and I respect him just as he respects me. Many people think I only came to know Mohammed through Simba, but we have been friends for more than 20 years."

"People say we want to overthrow someone—but overthrow them for what? There is no coup here. This is simply a difference in interpretation. Some people believe they should do whatever it takes to make their views prevail, but I will not be drawn into conflict."

"First of all, who says there is a crisis? I only see a misunderstanding. Those claiming I am causing problems should explain what crisis they are talking about," Mangungu said.
