FIFA President Gianni Infantino has called an emergency meeting of FIFA officials in Rabat, Morocco, scheduled for today, August 2026, following remarks by Arsène Wenger that have intensified pressure for the FIFA president to resign.
Wenger, the former Arsenal manager who now serves as FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, issued a statement saying he had "no involvement" in the plan to seek private investment for the company responsible for operating the FIFA World Cup.
However, he stressed that the decision to abandon the proposal was "absolutely necessary and beyond question."
According to the Associated Press (AP), the emergency meeting in Morocco will bring together FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and members of FIFA's executive management team.
Those expected to attend include Chief of Staff Daniel O'Toole, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer Emilio Garcia Silvero, Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov, Chief Human Resources Officer Kimberly Morris, Director of Media Bryan Swanson, and Director of Communications David Farrelly.
The meeting is expected to address the situation following Wenger's remarks and discuss the next steps for FIFA's leadership amid the growing scrutiny surrounding the organization's governance.
