Singida Black Stars have made a flying start to the new NBC Premier League (2026/27) season after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Fountain Gate FC in their opening match at Airtel Stadium.
The emphatic victory sends the hosts to the top of the league table early in the campaign and delivers a strong statement to their rivals ahead of the title race.
Singida Black Stars dominated much of the match, displaying impressive attacking football from the opening minute.
The star of the match was dangerous Ghanaian striker Jonathan Sowah, who opened his account for the new season by scoring the opening goal in the 28th minute after finishing off a well-worked move from midfield.
The goal remained the difference until half-time. Fountain Gate started the second half with greater urgency and attempted to make changes to find an equaliser, but Singida's defence remained solid and kept their attacks at bay.
With just eight minutes of normal time remaining, attacking midfielder Yusuph Khamis sent the home fans into celebration by scoring Singida's second goal in the 82nd minute, effectively ending the visitors' hopes of a comeback.
As the fans expected the match to finish at 2-0, Methew Tegisi put the final nail in Fountain Gate's coffin by scoring a third goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time (90+4') to complete the goal-scoring feast.
The result gives Singida Black Stars head coach the strong start he was looking for, while Fountain Gate's technical bench now faces the task of correcting their defensive mistakes ahead of their upcoming matches.
