CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup set to kick off this weekend.

The 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions are set to officially get underway this weekend, with clubs from across Africa beginning their journeys in pursuit of places in the next stages. The opening round is expected to be highly competitive, as every club will be looking to start its continental campaign with positive results and build a strong foundation for the stages ahead.

For Tanzania, Yanga SC will begin its CAF Champions League campaign away against Botswana’s Gaborone United on Saturday, September 5, 2026. Yanga will be aiming for a positive result on the road before the return leg.

Meanwhile, Simba SC will begin its continental campaign on Sunday, September 6, 2026, against Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers. Simba will also play away from home, with the result expected to play an important role ahead of the second leg.

The Simba and Yanga fixtures are part of the preliminary stages of the CAF Champions League, where clubs are battling for places in Africa’s biggest club competition. For both Tanzanian sides, securing positive results in the first legs would put them in a strong position heading into the return fixtures. However, Gaborone United and Mighty Wanderers are expected to provide strong opposition in front of their home supporters, meaning Simba and Yanga will need to remain focused.

For all clubs playing both at home and away, fans are expected to continue supporting their teams with respect, discipline and a commitment to peace throughout the matches. The competition should remain on the pitch, while match officials are expected to conduct the games with fairness, professionalism and integrity. A safe and respectful environment will be crucial to ensuring the opening stages of these competitions are successfully played.

For African football fans, this weekend marks the beginning of another exciting journey in CAF’s club competitions. Tanzanian fans will have their eyes firmly on Botswana and Malawi, where Yanga and Simba will represent Tanzania in their pursuit of continental success.
