Simba SC have made a strong start to their CAF Champions League campaign after securing a crucial 1-0 away victory over Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers.
The first-leg preliminary-round encounter was played at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, where the Reds of Msimbazi showed great maturity to leave Malawi with a valuable advantage heading into the return leg.
The only and winning goal of the match was scored by winger Anicet Oura.
The goal came from a quick tactical move, with Simba goalkeeper Djibrilla Kassali sending a long ball forward to Oura, who made no mistake as he outsmarted the Mighty Wanderers defenders before firing the ball into the net.
After conceding, the hosts, Mighty Wanderers, pushed forward in search of an equaliser, backed by their home supporters. However, Simba’s defensive wall and goalkeeper Kassali stood firm, keeping out every threat until the final whistle.
The victory puts Simba in a strong position to qualify for the next round, as they will host the return leg in Dar es Salaam, where they will need either a draw or another victory to advance.
