Simba SC have continued to struggle during their pre-season camp in South Africa after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Sekhukhune United in a friendly match.
The defeat comes shortly after Simba also lost 1-0 to Polokwane City in another friendly played in South Africa. As a result, the Reds of Msimbazi have now lost both of their trial matches during the camp.
The South Africa camp has been organised to give head coach Steve Barker an opportunity to continue testing his squad, build chemistry among the players and prepare the team for a busy schedule this month. Simba are also heading into the Kariakoo Derby against Yanga on October 10.
For the coaching staff, these friendly matches have provided an important opportunity to assess the squad’s quality and depth, particularly with several Simba players having been away on international duty during the FIFA break.
Despite the two defeats, Simba still have an opportunity to use these matches to identify areas that need improvement before returning to competitive action. The club’s schedule makes the preparations even more important, with the Kariakoo Derby and CAF Champions League commitments ahead.
Attention now turns to how Barker will use the remaining time to address the weaknesses exposed in these friendly matches, as Simba are expected to return to Dar es Salaam with work to do before facing Yanga.
