Egyptian side Al Ahly began their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory over Uganda’s Kitara FC in the first leg of the second preliminary round, played on Saturday, October 17, 2026, in Uganda.
Kitara FC opened the scoring in the 31st minute, giving their supporters hope of a strong start to the continental tie. The hosts worked hard to protect their lead, while Al Ahly searched for a way back into the match.
However, Al Ahly showed their fighting spirit after the break, finding the equaliser in the 67th minute. The goal gave the visitors renewed confidence and increased the pressure on Kitara, who were forced to defend against their opponents’ attacks.
Al Ahly continued pushing for a winner and found it in the 82nd minute, turning the scoreline around to 2-1. The victory puts the Egyptian side in a favourable position heading into the second leg, although they still have work to do to secure qualification over the two-legged tie.
For Kitara, the home defeat makes the return fixture more challenging, but their hopes of progressing remain alive and will depend on the aggregate result. Both teams will look to the second leg to determine their fate in the race for a place in the next round.
