Yanga Leadership to Hold Strategic Talks with GSM Over New Stadium Project

The leadership of Yanga is today expected to meet with GSM Company in Zanzibar for a strategic session to discuss and streamline implementation steps for the construction of the club’s stadium at its headquarters in Jangwani, Dar es Salaam.

The meeting will be led by Yanga President, Engineer Hersi Ally Said, and attended by the Chairman of GSM Group, Ghalib Said Mohamed, along with several members of the club’s Executive Committee and project experts.

This step follows a recent Executive Committee meeting that reviewed applications from various bidders competing for the stadium construction tender, where GSM Tanzania Limited was officially announced as the winner after meeting all the required criteria.

Speaking at a press conference held at Yanga’s headquarters in Jangwani, the club’s Information and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, said the process of selecting the contractor adhered to all professional and legal procedures.

He explained that before announcing the winner, the club conducted a thorough assessment of the construction site and identified the need for additional land to ensure the stadium meets the requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Through cooperation with the Government, Yanga was granted extra land along with a title deed, creating favorable conditions to begin implementation of the project.

Kamwe also took the opportunity to thank the Government of Tanzania under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for allocating the additional land, noting that the move has accelerated Yanga’s dream of owning a modern stadium.

In today’s Zanzibar meeting, both parties are expected to discuss the construction start date, the final project design, the management structure, and the projected completion timeline of the stadium.

The Yanga stadium project is described as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the club’s infrastructure and increase revenue streams through home matches and other commercial activities.

If implemented as planned, Yanga will join a select number of clubs in the country with their own privately owned stadiums that meet international standards — a milestone expected to further boost the club both economically and competitively.
