Yanga SC captain Bakari Mwamnyeto has explained his relationship with goalkeeper Djigui Diarra, saying that although the pair sometimes clash on the pitch, they maintain good communication both on and off the field.
Mwamnyeto said Diarra is one of the players he communicates with regularly, explaining that their conversations are not limited to matters on the pitch, as they also call each other and discuss various issues concerning the team.
Mwamnyeto said any disagreements or clashes that may be seen during matches are not a sign of hostility between them, but rather part of their communication and responsibilities within the team.
Last season, following a Mainland Premier League match against Dodoma Jiji in which Yanga suffered a 3-2 defeat, there was considerable discussion after Diarra asked to be substituted following Mwamnyeto’s own goal.
However, Yanga later clarified that Diarra had suffered an injury and was forced to leave his position, with Hussein Masalanga taking his place.
Many people nevertheless interpreted the incident as Diarra asking to come off after an exchange of words with Mwamnyeto, who has now provided his own explanation of what happened.
The two players have continued to be important pillars of Yanga’s defence during the four seasons they have played together at the club.
