After missing the NBC Premier League match against Simba while serving a suspension following a red card, Yanga attacking midfielder Stephane Aziz Ki is expected to return to the squad this weekend when Yanga face Madagascar’s CFFA in the first leg of their battle for a place in the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) group stage.
Aziz Ki’s return is welcome news for head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, as he is expected to bring greater creativity to the team’s attacking department.
Yanga need to win the match, which will be played at Azam Complex, to put themselves in a strong position to qualify for the group stage ahead of the return leg, scheduled for the same venue four days later.
CFFA arrived in Tanzania yesterday, and the team began preparations today as they get ready to face the Tanzanian Mainland champions.
Yanga, meanwhile, went into camp after their match against TRA United was postponed, giving the Wananchi sufficient time to prepare for the CAF Champions League encounter.
However, while Aziz Ki is set to return, Yanga have suffered a setback with versatile midfielder Duke Abuya expected to miss the match after sustaining an injury against Simba.
Yanga’s Information and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, said Abuya could be sidelined for two to three weeks.
