The Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports has been granted a 12-acre area by the Housing Corporation (NHC) to build a modern International Sports Arena
Speaking to the media immediately after being handed over, the Minister of Culture, Arts and Sports, Mohamed Mchengerwa today February 14, 2023, said that the area located in Kawe, Dar es Salaam will be handed over to a contractor and the construction will take eight to ten months to complete.
He said that the hall that will have the capacity to accommodate more than 16,000 people is expected to be one of the largest arenas in Africa and that currently the largest Sports Arena exists in Senegal, which has the capacity to accommodate 15,000 people.
"Our arena will accommodate 16,000 people and we expect it to also accommodate up to 20,000 people so that Tanzanians will have a chance to witness many concerts in that venue," said the minister.
He has explained that the mission of President Samia Suluhu Hassan is to ensure that the entertainment and sports sectors become sectors that contribute significantly to the national income and citizens benefit from them
