Mikel Arteta has blamed his Arsenal players for failing to get all three points against West Ham in what could be an impactful result in the Premier League title race.
The Gunners looked to be in good form in the opening matches at the London Stadium when they took a 2-0 lead inside the first ten minutes
Gabriel Jesus and Martin Odegaard scored the goals for The Gunners, however, for the second match in a row they surrendered 2-0 to Said Benrahma's penalty kick and Jarrod Bowen's shot resulted in a 2-2 draw
The match also saw Bukayo Saka miss a penalty which would have put the visitors ahead with 3-1 goals. And Arteta was not happy with his team after losing their two-goal lead
"We started very well, We dominated the game, dominated the field and scored two beautiful goals. After that we made a big mistake to stop playing with the same goals of scoring the third and fourth goals and thinking we could play around them and maintain results and look very easy"
"We gave them hope and they were able to get back into the game. There are times when you can go 3-1 up after 50 minutes and it's probably game over"
"Two minutes after that you accept the equalizer. This is part of football. My concern is after 2-0 that we made that big mistake and we didn't understand what the game needs now," said Arteta
After this result, Arsenal's lead has been reduced and they remain four points at the top while also playing one match more than Manchester City who occupy the second place
The teams have not yet played their second match which could decide the fate of the championship this season
