Acting Director of Sports Development Ally Mayay has said that the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam will be officially closed in May, this year for major repairs of two months
Despite the fact that the stadium has started minor repairs while it continues to be used for big matches, Mayay has said that it will be closed after the start of the maintenance of the playing area.
He said that the maintenance of the playing area will be managed by the Confederation of African Football 'CAF' due to the presence of the CAF Super Cup competition
"The reason that was being done right now is the maintenance of some areas such as changing rooms, press areas, judges' rooms which are small improvements but the big ones will start in the fifth month when the use of the field will not exist and it is expected that it will not be less of six to eight weeks," said Mayay.
He has said that this is a normal adjustment as stated earlier because the level and quality of the field is made and used according to the relevant times but as time goes on, improvements should be made to match the times
For that information, the stadium, which is used as the home stadium of the Simba SC and Young Africans teams, is expected to be used by those teams in the quarter-final matches of the African club before starting the maintenance of the playing area.
And according to the schedule of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the African Champions League and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Cup, the competition is expected to end on June 11, 2023.
