While the Tanzania Football Federation's Referees Committee has begun an investigation into the referees who officiated the controversial Simba-Mashujaa match, various football stakeholders including former players have come forward and said what is happening now is a shame for Tanzanian football.
The Chairman of the Referees Committee, Nassor Hamduni was quoted yesterday by Mwanasporti as saying that they have begun an investigation into the referees who officiated the match played at the KMC Complex Stadium, due to widespread suspicions that one of them is a Simba member.
The Premier League match was played on Friday with Simba winning 2-1, both on penalties scored by Leonel Ateba, but the 15-minute extra time added by the referees and the controversy over the penalty that gave the home team victory, has been the talk of the town and social media.
The referee, Kefa Kayombo, added those minutes, while showing goalkeeper Patrick a second yellow card Munthary of Mashujaa, who also gave away a controversial penalty in the 90+19th minute, has caused an uproar among fans, with some stakeholders unable to contain themselves and express their positions.
The stakeholders have said that what happened in the match between Simba and Mashujaa is not the first incident in the Premier League this season, as there have been matches in the past that had controversial decisions, but what is surprising is that they always involve a few teams, while the authorities in charge of the league remain silent about the shame.
