Tanzania's national women's football team, popularly known as Twiga Stars, has concluded its journey in the 2024 WAFCON tournament after being officially eliminated following a 4-1 defeat to Ghana in their final group stage match held in Morocco.
In this final Group C match, Twiga Stars had only one task: to secure a win in order to keep their tournament hopes alive. However, those hopes were dashed by Ghana, who largely dominated the game.
Twiga Stars' lone goal was scored by Stumai Abdallah, while Ghana's goals came from Pricella Adubea, Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Chantelle Boye.
As a result, Twiga Stars finished at the bottom of Group C with just one point, earned from a draw against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.
South Africa topped the group with seven points, followed by Ghana with four points, equal to Mali, but Ghana advanced due to a better goal difference.
This marks a difficult campaign for Twiga Stars, who, despite their efforts, failed to achieve their goal of progressing beyond the group stage in this major African tournament.
