Yanga SC has officially announced its new Head Coach, Romain Folz, a French national, who takes over from Miloud Hamdi after the latter left to coach Ismaily in Egypt.
Coach Folz, 35, is a well-known figure in African football, having worked with several clubs and national teams across the continent. His resume includes a stint as assistant coach at South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as roles as Head Coach and Technical Director in various African countries.
What’s particularly compelling about Folz’s arrival is the influence of legendary former Arsenal coach Arsène Wenger. It’s reported that during the opening ceremony of the FIFA Club World Cup held on June 5 in the USA, Wenger recommended Folz to Yanga President Engineer Hersi Said.
The two met at the event, and Wenger—who has worked with Folz through a special FIFA program—advised Hersi on the young coach’s potential.
According to reports, Wenger has played a mentorship role in Folz’s coaching career, and given President Hersi’s vision for Yanga SC, that recommendation wasn’t taken lightly. Communication between Folz and Yanga leadership began promptly, and with his prior African experience, the hiring process went smoothly.
Folz will not be coming alone—he is bringing along goalkeeping coach Majdi Mnasria, a Tunisian national, to further strengthen Yanga’s technical bench.
This marks another major step for Yanga as the club aims for greater success both domestically and internationally.
