The Tanzania national team, Taifa Stars, made a perfect start to their CHAN 2024 campaign with a commanding 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Stars dominated the match from start to finish, and had the forward line been more clinical, the scoreline could have been even more emphatic.
The breakthrough came in the first half after Clement Mzize was brought down inside the penalty area. Striker Abdul Suleiman Sopu stepped up and calmly converted the spot-kick, marking Tanzania’s first goal in this edition of the tournament.
In the second half, the momentum continued in Stars’ favor. The second goal came courtesy of left-back Mohammed Hussein Zimbwe Jr, who clinically finished off a cross from Idd Nado inside the box.
This crucial win not only gives Stars an early advantage in the group stage, but also breaks a disappointing streak — it is the team’s first-ever win in CHAN history, in what is their third appearance at the tournament.
With confidence high and fans buzzing, Taifa Stars will be looking to build on this strong start as they aim to leave a mark on home soil.
