Clatous Chama Returns to Simba to Fill Ahoua Void

Simba have brought back Zambian midfield maestro Clatous Chama, popularly known as “Mwamba wa Lusaka,” a move that has sparked widespread debate among football stakeholders in the country due to the significant impact he previously made at the club.

Chama first joined Simba in 2018 from Zambia’s Lusaka Dynamos and served the club with great success before leaving in August 2021 after being sold to Morocco’s RS Berkane. However, his stay with the Moroccan side was short-lived, and he returned to Simba in January 2022.

After his contract expired in July 2024, the midfielder joined Yanga for the 2024–2025 season, before signing for Singida Black Stars in September 2025. He has now returned to Simba once again in January 2026.

Simba’s decision to re-sign Chama has largely been influenced by the sale of midfielder Jean Charles Ahoua, who moved to Algeria’s CR Belouizdad during the current transfer window.

Ahoua was a key pillar last season, scoring 16 goals and providing nine assists, while also helping Simba reach the final of the 2024–2025 CAF Confederation Cup.

Ahoua’s departure has left a significant gap in the attacking midfield role, a position now expected to be filled by Chama. The midfielder returns with an impressive record at Simba, having been directly involved in 102 goals (60 assists and 42 goals) across 183 appearances in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League and international competitions.

Beyond his domestic experience, Chama has also demonstrated his quality at other clubs. While at Singida Black Stars, he played a crucial role in their qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup group stage, eliminating Rwanda’s Rayon Sports with an aggregate score of 3–1 and Burundi’s Flambeau du Centre by a 4–2 aggregate. Of the seven goals scored by Singida in those ties, Chama was involved in three, scoring two and providing one assist.

This season, Chama has scored six goals in all competitions, including three in the Kagame Cup, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer—an indication that he still possesses a sharp eye for goal despite operating from midfield.

Chama’s return comes as Simba prepare for a tough CAF Champions League encounter against Tunisia’s Esperance, scheduled for January 24, 2026. His vast experience in continental competitions is expected to be a key asset for the team in that away fixture.

Overall, Clatous Chama’s comeback is anticipated to add creativity in midfield, goals from the second line, and leadership on the pitch for Simba.

If he earns a place in the starting lineup, Simba fans have every reason to believe that Mwamba wa Lusaka can pick up where he left off and help the club achieve its domestic and international ambitions this season.
