Tanzania’s NBC Premier League Ranks Sixth in Africa in 2025 IFFHS Ratings

The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) has released the rankings of the top football leagues in Africa for 2025, providing data that reflects the competitive trends in African football.

In the list, the Egyptian Premier League (Nile League) has maintained its position at the top, while Tanzania has dropped one place compared to last season.

According to these rankings, Tanzania’s NBC Premier League holds the sixth position in 2025, down from fifth last year. Nevertheless, despite this one-place drop, Tanzania remains among the top six leagues in Africa, which continues to bring significant international recognition to the league.

Egypt and Morocco Remain Leaders

The Egyptian Premier League (Nile League) continues to assert its quality by leading Africa, followed by Morocco’s Botola Pro in second place. The success of their clubs in CAF competitions, significant investment, and strong infrastructure continue to secure these nations’ top positions on Africa’s football map.

Africa’s South, Algeria, and Tunisia Maintain Quality

The third position is held by South Africa’s Premier Division (Betway Premiership), followed by Algeria and Tunisia, completing the top five. These leagues have built strong competitive foundations and continue to present major challenges in international competitions.

Tanzania Still Among the Best

Despite dropping one position, the Tanzanian Premier League continues to be seen as one of the most competitive leagues in Africa. The achievements of clubs like Simba and Young Africans (Yanga) in CAF competitions, along with the improving quality of both local and foreign players, have maintained the league’s position high on the continent’s football map.

This slight drop is attributed more to the rise of other leagues, particularly in South Africa, rather than a decline in the quality of Tanzanian football.

Other Leagues Rising

DR Congo occupies the seventh position, followed by Mali, Angola, and Ivory Coast. These leagues continue to show strong growth, especially in talent development and regional competitiveness.

The IFFHS 2025 rankings demonstrate the high competitiveness of African football, with some leagues maintaining their top status while others continue to rise. For Tanzania, the sixth-place ranking is a reminder of the work accomplished, but also a challenge to reclaim fifth place or even climb higher in the coming years.

For Egypt and Morocco, their leadership is the result of long-term investment and solid planning. For African football, this competition indicates a bright and increasingly attractive future.
