CAF Fines Senegal and Morocco Heavily Over AFCON 2025 Final Disciplinary Breaches

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined Senegal a total of TSh 1.55 billion following disciplinary violations during the AFCON 2025 final played in Morocco.

Senegal were fined TSh 756,300,000 for misconduct by supporters, and another TSh 756,300,000 for misconduct by players and team officials.

In addition, the team was fined TSh 37,815,000 for receiving five yellow cards during the final. Beyond the financial penalties, the national team head coach and two players were also handed match bans and additional fines for various offences.

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw was banned for five matches and fined TSh 252 million for inciting his players to walk off the pitch and threatening to boycott the AFCON 2025 final against Morocco.

Despite the threat of a boycott and some players returning to the dressing rooms, internal discussions eventually led the team to return to the field and complete the match. Senegal later emerged champions after defeating Morocco 1–0 in a match that went the full 120 minutes.

Players Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr were each banned for two matches for acts of misconduct during the final. The two players were found guilty of unsporting behaviour towards the match referee, expressing dissatisfaction with his decisions.

Meanwhile, Morocco were also fined a total of TSh 805,612,000 for incidents that occurred during the same match.

Defender Achraf Hakimi received a two-match ban after being found guilty of disciplinary offences, while Ismael Saibari was banned for three matches and fined more than TSh 255,000,000.

Morocco were further punished for additional violations, including crowd disturbances and the use of flares, which are prohibited under CAF regulations.
