The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has set March 5, 2026, as the date to deliver its final ruling in the major dispute over the 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League title — a matter that has sparked intense debate within Egyptian and African football.
The decision is regarded as the final step in a legal battle that has lasted several months between the country’s top clubs.
The dispute began after a league match scheduled for March 11, 2025, between Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC failed to take place when Al Ahly refused to play, citing objections over the appointment of match officials.
The outcome of that fixture was later altered by the league’s competition committee, prompting several appeals from the parties involved, including Pyramids FC.
Pyramids FC submitted their complaint to CAS, seeking sanctions against Al Ahly, particularly regarding the failure to appoint foreign referees as had reportedly been required.
In its statement, CAS said it would consider the written submissions and evidence presented without holding an oral hearing, and that the final decision would be announced in early March.
Reports indicate that the CAS ruling could have significant consequences due to the points situation in the league table at the time. Prior to the appeals, Al Ahly were leading the standings, closely followed by Pyramids FC, and any adjustment in points could determine the official 2024/25 league champion.
