George Lwandamina Appointed Interim Head Coach of Zambia National Team

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has appointed experienced coach George Lwandamina as the interim head coach of the Zambia national football team, popularly known as Chipolopolo.

According to a statement from FAZ, Lwandamina will temporarily take charge of the team as they prepare to participate in the Four-Nation Tournament in Botswana, which will take place during the FIFA international match window in March.

On the technical bench, Lwandamina will be assisted by Oswald Mutapa Jr., who is currently the head coach of Power Dynamos FC, a club competing in the Zambia Premier League.

The appointment comes as FAZ continues its search for a permanent head coach for Chipolopolo after the position became vacant. The federation stated that the temporary appointment is intended to ensure the team continues its international program without disruption while the process of recruiting a permanent coach continues.

Lwandamina is expected to oversee the team’s immediate preparations before their trip to Botswana for the tournament, which will feature four nations from the region.

The coach has extensive experience in Zambian football as well as in the East African region. He has previously coached ZESCO United FC and also worked in Tanzania with clubs Young Africans SC and Azam FC.

He is known for his strong defensive tactics, high level of discipline in play, and his ability to build competitive teams.

The four-nation tournament in Botswana will serve as Lwandamina’s first test in his new role, with Zambian fans hoping to see Chipolopolo return to strong international competitiveness.
