The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for its major club competitions, the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) and the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC), starting from the 2025/2026 season.
The announcement was made by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who said the move aims to strengthen club football competition in Africa and increase revenue for participating teams.
According to CAF, the winner of the CAF Champions League will now receive US$6 million, representing a 50 percent increase from the previous US$4 million.
Meanwhile, the winner of the CAF Confederation Cup will receive US$4 million, which is double the previous prize of US$2 million.
Under the new CAF Champions League prize structure, the runner-up will receive US$2 million, while each semifinalist will earn US$1.2 million. Quarterfinalists will receive US$900,000, while teams finishing third or fourth in the group stage will receive US$700,000.
For the CAF Confederation Cup, the runner-up will receive US$1 million, semifinalists will earn US$750,000 each, and quarterfinalists will receive US$550,000. Teams finishing third or fourth in the group stage will receive US$400,000.
CAF has also announced an increase in support funds for clubs eliminated in the early stages of the competitions, raising the amount from US$50,000 to US$100,000 to help cover travel and team preparation costs.
According to CAF, the total prize pool for the CAF Champions League has now reached US$19.6 million, while the CAF Confederation Cup has reached US$11.9 million.
CAF officials said the increase has been made possible by higher revenues from television broadcasting rights and sponsorship deals, which are expected to boost the competitiveness and prestige of African club competitions.
The move is expected to motivate clubs across Africa to perform better in CAF competitions.
