The 2026 Muungano Cup is expected to begin in Zanzibar on April 21, featuring eight teams—four from Zanzibar and four from Mainland Tanzania.
Teams from Mainland Tanzania expected to participate include Yanga, Simba, Azam FC, and Singida Black Stars. From Zanzibar, the participating teams will be Mlandege FC, Muembe Makumbi City, Mafunzo, and KVZ.
Yanga are the defending champions of the Muungano Cup after winning the 2025 title by defeating JKU 1-0 in the final played on May 1, 2025, at Gombani Stadium in Pemba.
That victory made Yanga the most successful club in the competition’s history, having won the trophy seven times—in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2025.
The tournament will be played over five days and will conclude on April 26, the day that marks the anniversary of the Union.
