Yanga Head of Information and Communications Ali Kamwe has revealed that the club had already arranged a private charter flight to Tabora before the venue for their NBC Premier League match against Tanzania Prisons was officially changed.
According to Kamwe, the club had planned to travel to Tabora after earlier indications suggested the match would be played there. However, the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) later confirmed that the game would instead take place at Jamhuri Stadium in Dodoma.
βWe received an official letter from the League Board yesterday confirming that the match will be played in Dodoma. Before that, when we saw that Tanzania Prisons were preparing to host the match in Tabora, we contacted an airline and made a booking for a charter flight to take us there,β Kamwe said.
He explained that the club had no issue traveling to Tabora and had simply looked for the quickest way to reach the destination.
βAs a club we had no problem going to Tabora. We were just looking for the fastest way to get there because traveling by bus would have been difficult and the train was already fully booked.β
βWe were only waiting for confirmation from the League Board. If they had confirmed the match would be played in Tabora, we would have departed today because all travel arrangements had already been completed,β he added.
Yanga eventually left Dar es Salaam early today for Dodoma, while their opponents Tanzania Prisons, who had already arrived in Tabora, are now required to travel to Dodoma for the match.
