Arsenal Extend Lead in Premier League Title Race After City Drop Points

The race for the English Premier League title has taken a new turn following matches played on Saturday, March 14, 2026, where league leaders Arsenal secured an important victory while their closest rivals Manchester City dropped crucial points.

In a match played at Emirates Stadium, Arsenal defeated Everton 2–0 to strengthen their hold at the top of the league table. The win took them to 70 points, putting them nine points ahead of Manchester City, although City still have one game in hand.

Arsenal scored their first goal in the 89th minute through striker Viktor Gyökeres, who found the net after sustained pressure on Everton’s defense. The second goal came during stoppage time from 16-year-old youngster Max Dowman, who finished a quick counterattack to become the youngest player to score in Premier League history.

The victory has boosted Arsenal’s hopes of winning their first league title in 22 years, since their last triumph in 2004.

Meanwhile, Manchester City slipped after being held to a 1–1 draw by West Ham United in a match played at London Stadium.

City took the lead in the 31st minute through midfielder Bernardo Silva, but West Ham equalized minutes later when defender Konstantinos Mavropanos scored with a header from a corner delivered by Jarrod Bowen.

Despite dominating possession and creating several scoring chances, City were unable to find a winning goal, a result that slowed their momentum in the title race.

In other matches played that day, Newcastle United defeated Chelsea 1–0 through Anthony Gordon, while Brighton & Hove Albion beat Sunderland 1–0 with a goal from Yankuba Minteh. Burnley and Bournemouth played to a 0–0 draw.

With these results, pressure is now mounting on Manchester City in the title race, as Arsenal remain in first place with a nine-point lead on 70 points, while City sit on 61 points with a game in hand.
