Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has made new history at the club after breaking a record that had stood for more than 25 years, previously set by former legend David Beckham.
The record was broken during an English Premier League match where Manchester United secured a 3–1 victory against Aston Villa at Old Trafford. In that game, Fernandes provided two assists that helped his team claim an important win.
With those two assists, the Portuguese international midfielder reached 16 assists in the 2025/26 Premier League season, surpassing the previous record of 15 assists set by Beckham during the 1999/2000 season while playing for Manchester United.
In addition to breaking the historic record, Fernandes also reached 100 assists for Manchester United across all competitions, highlighting his significant contribution to the team since joining the club in 2020.
In the same match, Manchester United’s goals were scored by Casemiro, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko, while Aston Villa scored their only goal through Ross Barkley. The victory helped United strengthen their position in the race to qualify for European competitions next season.
After breaking the record, Fernandes said it was a great honor to surpass Beckham’s achievement, describing him as one of the players who brought tremendous success to Manchester United. He added that the milestone would not change his focus on continuing to help the team win trophies.
Fernandes remains one of the most important players in the Manchester United squad and is currently being mentioned among the contenders for the Premier League Player of the Season award due to his outstanding performances.
