Yanga Struggles in Recent Transfer Windows, Manager Calls for Reform

Looking back at the past two transfer windows, Young Africans SC (Yanga) has struggled to make impactful signings.

Many players signed during the major window are no longer at the club, while several additions from the minor window failed to break into the first team.

Foreign stars Celestin Ecua, Moussa Balla Conte, Andy Boyeli, and Mohamed Doumbia were all signed during the major window but have since left.

Attacking midfielder Allan Okello, winger Buba Jammeh, and striker Laurindo Aurelio “Depu” were among the minor window signings, but only Okello and Depu managed to establish themselves in the first team, with Depu scoring 11 goals in 10 matches across all competitions for Yanga.

Yanga’s Media and Communications Manager, Ali Kamwe, admitted that the club did not perform well in these transfer windows, citing procedural changes as the reason.

Kamwe explained that during these windows, the responsibility for transfer recommendations was left entirely to the coaches.

"Unlike other seasons, this year’s transfer windows were managed 100% by the coaches. The leadership only fulfilled the requirements set by the coaches."

"The major window was overseen by coach Romain Folz, while the minor window was fully managed by our current coach, Pedro Goncalves."

"I believe this is an area that needs correction, and I take this opportunity to request the club president, Injini Hersi Said, to personally oversee the transfer process as was done before. Transfer matters should return under his supervision," Kamwe said.
