Chelsea FC full-back Marc Cucurella has made strong comments about the club’s recent decisions, saying that some actions have affected the players’ morale.
Cucurella admitted that the departure of coach Enzo Maresca had a significant impact on the squad, emphasizing that he would not have preferred such a decision to be made in the middle of the season.
“The departure of Maresca had a big impact on us. These are club decisions, but if you asked me, I wouldn’t have done that. For changes like that, it’s better to wait until the end of the season,” he said.
He also spoke about the club’s policy of signing young players, saying he understands the approach but that it can be challenging for a team aiming to win major trophies.
“I understand this is part of the club’s policy—to sign young players and focus on the future. But for those of us who remain and want to win big trophies, moments like this are discouraging,” he added.
Cucurella stressed that although Chelsea has a strong squad foundation, there is still a need to add experience in order to compete successfully in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.
“We have a good base of players, but to fight for major trophies you need more. Signing only young players can make it difficult to achieve those goals,” he concluded.
