The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has begun talks with former Morocco coach Walid Regragui regarding the possibility of leading the country’s national team, famously known as the Black Stars.
Reports from various media outlets across Africa indicate that Regragui is among the top candidates for the position, and discussions between him and the GFA have already started, although no official agreement has been reached yet.
This move by the GFA follows changes to the coaching staff after the departure of former team coach Otto Addo, a decision influenced by unsatisfactory results in recent international matches.
Walid Regragui is considered a prime choice due to his strong track record, particularly after leading Morocco to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup, an achievement that made history for the African continent.
However, the coach recently left Morocco following challenges that arose after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
According to reports, competition for the role is intense, with many coaches from both within and outside Africa mentioned as potential candidates.
If Walid Regragui is appointed, he is expected to take on the responsibility of preparing Ghana for upcoming international competitions, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
So far, the GFA has not issued an official statement regarding the appointment of a new coach.
