Wayne Rooney Backs Michael Carrick for Permanent Manchester United Role

Former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney has continued to insist that Michael Carrick deserves to be given the permanent managerial role at the club following his impressive results since taking over on an interim basis.

Rooney says Carrick has demonstrated strong leadership qualities by quickly restoring Manchester United’s competitiveness, adding that his achievements are not receiving the recognition they deserve because he is a young English coach.

“If Manchester United had brought in Luis Enrique or Thomas Tuchel and they had won 10 out of 14 matches in a row, everyone would be praising them and calling it extraordinary. Michael Carrick has done that and no one is praising him because he is a young English coach,” said Rooney.

Rooney, who previously played alongside Carrick with great success at Manchester United, says the coach understands the club’s DNA well and has the ability to lead it long-term.

“Michael Carrick is a very intelligent person, a very good coach, and I think he can lead the team for a long time. Since he took over, Manchester United has gained stability and the fans are now enjoying the results,” he added.

Since being appointed earlier this year following the departure of the former coach, Carrick has guided United to 10 wins in 14 league matches, a record that has led many to consider him the right long-term choice at Old Trafford.

Under Carrick, Manchester United have recorded victories against top sides including Manchester City, Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC, and Arsenal FC, and are now strongly positioned to finish in the top four and secure a return to the UEFA Champions League next season.

In a separate interview, Carrick himself stressed that his focus remains on helping the team finish the season strongly despite ongoing speculation about his future at the club.

Many Manchester United fans have expressed support for Carrick due to the quick improvement in team performance, with some believing that restoring the club’s identity requires someone who understands its history and culture, like Carrick.
