Julián Álvarez Yet to Commit Future to Atlético Madrid Amid Transfer Interest

Argentine international striker Julián Álvarez is reportedly not planning to sign a new contract with Atlético Madrid at the moment, despite ongoing reports linking him with improved contract talks at the club.

The situation has intensified speculation surrounding the future of the former Manchester City star, who is attracting interest from several major European clubs including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and a number of Premier League sides.

Atlético Madrid head coach Diego Simeone spoke openly about the striker’s situation following the club’s final La Liga match against Villarreal, making it clear that the decision ultimately lies with the player himself.

“Álvarez’s future? That is not my question, it is his. He is old enough to know what he wants to do, and I believe he has already made his decision,” said Simeone.

BARCELONA, PSG AND PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS INTERESTED

Reports from Spain and France suggest that Barcelona view Álvarez as a potential long-term replacement for veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, while PSG are also believed to be preparing to enter the race for his signature.

Meanwhile, Premier League clubs including Arsenal FC have reportedly shown interest in bringing the forward back to England after his successful spell at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola.

KEY PLAYER FOR ATLÉTICO

Since joining Atlético Madrid in 2024 from Manchester City for a club-record transfer fee, Álvarez has established himself as one of Diego Simeone’s most important players.

This season, he has continued to impress in both La Liga and European competitions, making Atlético reluctant to let him leave despite increasing pressure from Europe’s top clubs.

However, the slow progress in negotiations over a new contract continues to fuel speculation that the striker could depart during the upcoming transfer window.
