The England national team demonstrated its readiness for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with an impressive 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in its final friendly match before the tournament begins.
The match, played in Orlando, United States, was delayed by nearly an hour due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. However, the weather conditions did little to disrupt the performance of Thomas Tuchelās side.
Midfielder Declan Rice opened the scoring early in the game following excellent build-up play from Anthony Gordon. Gordon later got on the scoresheet himself from the penalty spot before Ollie Watkins added a third goal to seal a comfortable victory.
Beyond the result, head coach Thomas Tuchel had several reasons to be encouraged, as his team displayed strong unity, a high tempo, and considerable creativity in attack. Jude Bellingham stood out in an advanced midfield role, further strengthening his case for a starting place in Englandās World Cup lineup.
Speaking after the match, Tuchel expressed satisfaction with his teamās preparations and emphasized that his players are ready for the challenges of the tournament. He also praised the squadās ability to adapt to the warm conditions expected during some of the World Cup fixtures.
