Defending NBC Premier League champions Yanga SC have returned to the top of the league table after securing a 2-0 victory over Fountain Gate at Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium in Arusha.
The win further highlighted Yanga's strength in their title defense campaign, restoring them to first place after spending only about 24 hours behind their rivals Simba.
After a goalless first half, Yanga came out with greater intensity in the second period and scored twice to secure three crucial points.
Midfielder Pacรดme Zouzoua opened the scoring in the 53rd minute before striker Depรบ doubled the lead just two minutes later, effectively ending Fountain Gate's hopes of mounting a comeback.
Yanga displayed excellent discipline and ball control throughout the match, dominating large portions of the game despite playing in front of the home crowd.
The result takes Yanga to 66 points and back to the summit of the NBC Premier League standings. The team now needs at least two wins and one draw from their remaining fixtures to secure a fifth consecutive league title.
Pamba Jiji Win in Style, JKT Suffer Defeat at Isamuhyo
In other matches played today, Pamba Jiji delivered an impressive performance with a commanding 4-0 victory over Mtibwa Sugar. Striker Mathew Tegisi was the star of the match, scoring the second hat-trick of the NBC Premier League season.
His hat-trick came just one day after Mossi Ndumumwe of Singida Black Stars recorded the season's first hat-trick.
Elsewhere, JKT Tanzania suffered an unexpected 1-0 defeat to Tanzania Prisons at Isamuhyo Stadium. The only goal of the match was scored by George Mpole from the penalty spot in the 45th minute, earning Tanzania Prisons a valuable victory in their league campaign.
